Vocational Training
Nigeria’s clean energy sector is growing fast, and it needs local hands. We take renewable‑energy training directly to secondary schools and community sites, carrying portable solar kits so young people can learn on real equipment — wherever they are.
Why it matters
Over 20 million young Nigerians are out of school. The solar industry is growing fast and needs trained local hands.
For young people in rural and underserved communities, limited access to quality education and technical training narrows the path to sustainable work. Meanwhile mini‑grid installations, solar home systems and off‑grid electrification projects across the country need trained local technicians and entrepreneurs — and that demand is not reaching the communities that most need the opportunity.
We are putting those two facts together, one young person at a time. The programme is built for secondary school students, for out‑of‑school youth aged 15 to 24, and for young people in rural communities with no realistic access to technical training. Young women are a priority group, in line with our commitment to gender inclusion in STEM and clean energy.
What we cover
Six modules, taught on real equipment.
- Introduction to solar energy and the clean energy transition
- Energy access, the SDGs and Nigeria’s energy landscape
- How solar systems work — components, sizing and basic circuits
- Hands‑on work with small solar systems using portable practice kits
- Basic electrical safety and solar installation concepts
- Entrepreneurship and career pathways in renewable energy
There is no campus and no waiting list. Facilitators travel to each school or community site and bring the practice kits with them, so the hands‑on part happens wherever the session happens — whatever the local infrastructure.
Young people finish able to explain how a solar system works and to recognise clean energy as a livelihood they could genuinely enter, ready for deeper technical training or a solar apprenticeship.
Longer term, we are working towards a permanent, community‑based Renewable Energy Training Centre — where young people from the communities we already serve can pursue deeper technical education, earn nationally recognised certification in solar installation, and move into employment or start their own businesses.
