In a remote riverine island community in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos, where electricity has never existed and access is only possible by boat, education has long faced an invisible barrier: darkness. At Itun-Agan Community Junior Grammar School, students have historically struggled to study after sunset, relying on candles and kerosene lamps that were unsafe, unhealthy, and unreliable.
Today, that story is changing.
Through the donation of solar-powered school bags, students in Itun-Agan now have access to clean, renewable light that allows them to read, revise, and complete homework safely after dark. These innovative bags store solar energy during the day and provide bright LED lighting at night—eliminating the need for hazardous fuel-based lighting.
For many children in off-grid communities, lack of electricity directly affects academic performance. When the sun sets, learning often stops. With solar-powered school bags, learning continues.

Previously, students in Itun-Agan faced serious challenges. Candlelight strained their eyes, kerosene fumes affected their health, and open flames posed fire risks in tightly packed homes built over water. These conditions made consistent study difficult and unsafe. The introduction of solar-powered lighting is not just a convenience—it is a life-changing intervention.
Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, regardless of geography. At Solardẹrọ Foundation, we believe that education and energy access go hand in hand. By addressing energy poverty, we unlock educational potential and empower children to dream beyond their circumstances.
The impact of solar-powered school bags extends far beyond improved study hours. Students report increased confidence, better concentration, and a renewed enthusiasm for learning. Parents feel relieved knowing their children can study safely at night. Teachers see improved engagement and academic consistency. A simple, well-designed solar solution creates ripple effects across the entire community.
This initiative also aligns directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7): Affordable and Clean Energy, while supporting equitable access to quality education. Clean energy solutions like solar-powered school bags reduce reliance on fossil fuels, cut household expenses, and promote environmental sustainability—all while improving educational outcomes.
At Solardẹrọ Foundation, our mission is to bridge the energy gap in underserved communities across Africa using practical, culturally relevant solar solutions. Each solar-powered school bag distributed represents more than a product—it represents hope, safety, dignity, and opportunity.
Communities like Itun-Agan remind us why this work matters. When children have light, they have time. When they have time, they have knowledge. And when they have knowledge, they have power to shape their future.
But we cannot do this alone.
By supporting Solardẹrọ Foundation, you help bring light to classrooms, homes, and futures that have been left in the dark for far too long. Your donation directly supports the production and distribution of solar-powered school bags for children in off-grid and low-income communities.
Together, we can illuminate learning, empower young minds, and build a brighter, more equitable future—one solar-powered school bag at a time.
